Welcome to our Multilingual Classroom - September News - Happy Fall!
Welcome to our multilingual classroom where we honor and celebrate language diversity by creating an inclusive environment where students feel valued and respected! Our students are already settling into our classroom routines and structures each day.
Kindergarten and 1st grade students are exploring their Five Senses for academic learning using the key language of “inform” to highlight language to provide information. Students will convey information, define, describe, compare, contrast, organize, categorize, or classify concepts or ideas.
Second grade students will be exploring the importance of protecting our water supply by using key language of "argue" by students participating in building background knowledge, sustained reading, deconstruct text, joint construction of text, collaborative construction of a text with peers and independently. The importance of water, access to water, water pollution and protecting water sources will be used for academic language learning.
Third grade students will be reading and comparing texts about animals and plants to understand how living things grow and change along with practicing skills such as identifying the main idea and comparing and contrasting information. Students will be exposed to academic language during this unit and in their writing development. Students will also be writing an informative text by gathering research from two sources to write their multi-paragraph essay.
Fourth grade students will be reading and writing about topics that revolve around nature. They will begin to annotate their thinking within several texts and construct an informational piece in response to what we have read and learned about nature. Students will be exposed to academic language during this unit and in their writing development.
Fifth grade students will be involved in the International Space Station and the Olympics for academic language learning by using the key language of "explain" through the Language for Social Studies. Students will build knowledge, supported reading, deconstruct text, joint construction of a text, along with collaboration with others.

The month of September is slipping by but as you can see, our students are busy developing their language structures to learn and discover the world around them. Thank you for entrusting me with developing your child’s language skills. I look forward to seeing them each and every day.
With kindness and appreciation,
