Happy March!  Spring is right around the corner and our multilingual students are excited for the warner weather along with the beauty of springtime!

We are thrilled to announce that our students successfully completed their state ACCESS tests for language development! Our students demonstrated their skills in four key areas: Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing. This accomplishment reflects their hard work and dedication, and we are so proud of their efforts!  All test results will be available sometime in April or May. Please keep an eye out for more information as we approach these dates. I want to reassure you that our multilingual students will continue to receive focused instruction for their language development throughout the remainder of the school year. We are grateful at Coyote Ridge Elementary for your ongoing support in helping our students achieve their language goals. 

Spring conferences are coming soon. I would love to meet with all of my amazing multilingual families to honor and celebrate your child's learning this year. Please take a moment to sign-up for a time slot either on March 13th or March 20th before or after you meet with your child's homeroom teacher or any time that is convenient for you! I can not wait to share all the amazing learning your child has made over the past few months.  Parent/Teacher Conferences  Your child’s conference will be held in Mobile #4 outside the north door by the library.

In Kindergarten and 1st grade our students will be using key language to discover and explain “How can people use changes in nature to get ready for each season?” Students will learn information about the seasons (spring, summer, fall, and winter) as context for academic language learning in order to explain to others how the weather, our clothing and activities change in each season.  

In second grade, students will discover how people use their knowledge about erosion to protect people and land.  Students will use the key language of explain to answer compelling questions in science.  Students will transfer their knowledge to their writing and share their learning with their peers.

Our 3rd grade students will be writing opinion essays which will include an opinion that expresses thoughts and feelings about a topic along with fully developing each of the reasons for their opinion.  Credible evidence from online sources will be supported along with an introduction, body and conclusion. 

In 4th grade students will continue  studying how we overcome obstacles. Students will read traditional tales in which characters embark on a quest. They will learn how the character confronts challenges along with identifying the traits of each character  The students will read stories from a variety of cultures while discovering that many themes in stories are universal. 

In 5th grade, our multilingual students will be asking and answering questions to say or write something to someone as a way of gaining information and to request an answer to a question using question words, identifying nouns and pronouns.
