December News

December is always such a busy month! Even in second grade, the students have a lot to accomplish.

During the month of December, we will finish up Unit 4 which focuses on place value and measurement.  Students have been working on telling time, measuring length, and continue developing an understanding of place value to the hundreds place.  We will begin Unit 5 after break where we are working on whole number operations and number stories. These include addition and subtraction number stories, exploring arrays, and counting coins.  Thank you for your assistance on the nightly math home links.

In writing we have begun our opinion writing unit. Students are learning how to form an opinion and give reasons in a multiparagraph format.

In social studies students are learning how communities change over time and the affects it has on people in the community.

Thanks for your support with reading at home. Please remember to have your child read a minimum of 400 minutes per month. Reading at home makes such a difference! Remember, reading to, reading with, and reading independently all count toward the monthly goal.

We hope you have a safe and wonderful holiday season. Enjoy the time off with your child(ren)!
