February Newsletter

During the month of February, we will complete Unit 6 of Everyday Math. We are working on whole number operations and number stories.  They will be introduced to comparison number stories and two-step number stories.  They will also practice how to collect and display data on different types of graphs.

In literacy we've been working on research writing. Second graders are researching habitats. They have used these facts to type a four paragraph informational text that includes an introduction, body and conclusion. We will also focus on the text features that support our facts, such as diagrams, pictures, captions.

We have one field trips this month!  We will being heading to Denver Nature and Science to learn about animal adaptations. If you haven't sent back your child's permission slip, please do so as soon as possible to ensure they may attend.

With Valentine's Day quickly approaching, we are looking forward to our classroom Valentine exchange. Please have your child bring a shoe box or bag on February 11th to collect his/her Valentines. A class list was sent home with your child to provide names for Valentines. If you choose to send Valentines, please be sure to include all students.

We look forward to seeing you at Parent/Teacher Conferences on February 11th and 12th.
