March Newsletter

Thanks for your support with reading at home.  Please continue to work with your child on fluency skills including reading pace and intonation.

During the month of March, we will be working on Unit 7 and Unit 8 of Everyday Math.  Unit 7 focuses on measuring using both U.S. customary and metric systems as well as gathering and analyzing data.  For Unit 8 we will focus on geometry with an emphasis on 2 and 3 dimensional shapes.  We will also begin some foundational skills in multiplication.  Thank you for your assistance on the nightly math home links.

In Social Studies we will begin our unit titled Conflict and Cooperation in My Community. This is a study of how communities manage resources and resolve conflict.

Students are learning how to zoom in on a small moment in order to write a well elaborated personal narrative.  They will be learning how to add dialogue to their stories and include sensory details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings.

Students are also reading fairy tales and fables in which they will analyze different characters' point of view, determine the moral of the story, and compare two or more versions of the same story.

Please save the date for the second grade music performance on April 9th at 8:00. We hope to see you there!
