October News

We are so happy to be back in the classroom with our 2nd grade! We really appreciate all the support during this transition. It feels so great to be back!

Important Dates:

10-16  Individual Pictures

For the month of October your student will  be learning:

Reading: In literacy we will begin a study of informational text features and how they help us navigate through non-fiction books.  Students will be utilizing text features such as the table of contents, index, captions, glossary, bold print, and subheadings.

Writing: Students will be working their way through the writing process in order to compose an informational piece about an animal of their choice.   We will be working on writing informative text in which they introduce a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding statement.

Math: We will continue using Everyday Math curriculum. During the month of October we will finish unit 2 of Everyday Math and begin unit 3, which focuses on fact strategies for subtraction.

Science: We will continue our study of plants and animals, investigating how and how structures of specific plants and animals help them survive in a given habitat.

We are following the district’s recommendations for keeping our classrooms a safe environment for our students. Each classroom is its own cohort and is kept together during the day - even for lunch and recess. Students will only be in a different classroom for specials, and this year specials are on a 5 week rotation to minimize contact within the building. Classrooms have been set up for social distancing and all student items are kept in individual containers. We have daily handwashing along with the use of hand sanitizer as needed. Face masks are worn throughout the day but can be taken off for recess. Please make sure your child has two face masks at school every day.
