The first few weeks of 4th grade are now underway, and we are moving into lots of learning. We've started off by getting MAPS results for both reading and math. This data will provide us the baseline for growth to reach by the end of year. In math this month, we will review some concepts such as estimating, rounding, addition, and number stories. We will focus on having a growth mindset and be ready for the challenges math may bring this year. We will focus on how to construct a response in reading, as well as focus on theme in both poetry and prose. In writing, we will be composing a personal narrative piece. We will work on the various aspects of the writing and publish a piece after editing and revising. We have covered our government unit in social studies, including the levels of government and the three branches. We will also cover the structures and functions of organisms in science. This will include the main systems of the human body. We will have a Social Emotional Lesson (SEL) each Wednesday, with the first unit's focus on goal setting and growth mindset. We also continue to build classroom community with daily morning meetings.
