Special Education Advisory Council

The Adams 12 Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC) is a parent-led advisory group that addresses the needs of the parent community and provides input and recommendations to improve services for students with disabilities.  Families and Adams 12 staff are welcome to attend. 

Our first SEAC meeting for this school year will be on November 4th from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Educational Support Center (1500 E 128th Ave, Thornton, CO 80241).  

-Dinner and childcare will be provided. 

-Translation services in Spanish will be provided.

March News

In literacy groups we continue to develop our decoding skills.  The more we practice, the more confidence we gain. Primary grade students continue to work hard on their phonemic awareness skills, closed and open syllables, and sight word drill practice.  Intermediate grade students continue working on phonemic awareness skills with advanced vowel teams and multisyllabic words.  

In small groups students are getting support with writing their grade level writing pieces (it varies by grade level).  Students are working on writing key details to support their topic in their own words vs. copying it out of the text and using more variety with our transitional clauses.  We are really trying to work hard on our own editing and revising skills, re-reading for meaning, checking for spelling and punctuation errors. 

In math groups, we continue to reinforce and practice various skills.  Depending on the math group, we are working on making tens and ones for two digit numbers, multiplication, fractions, and long division.

We look forward to seeing you at Parent/Teacher Conferences on March 13th or 20th! We plan on attending the conference time you select with your child’s grade level teacher (unless we’re double booked).  If you would like an additional conference to meet with one/some of us, please email me to set up a time.  elizabeth.martinez@adams12.org

March 2025

For the month of March we will focus on the core words in, where, away, and up, and we will use a variety of texts to reinforce these words as well as work on comprehension skills and compare and contrast fiction and non-fiction texts.  In math we will continue to compare quantities by using vocabulary such as less, more, same, equal, greater, and less than and apply this to interpreting data sets in a variety of graphs.  We will also begin labeling different types of graphs such as pictographs, bar graphs, and pie charts.   In Unique Learning Systems (ULS), we will begin the unit “Energy Around Us” where students will explore how energy is all around them, and the activities and devices that require energy. The primary vocabulary for this unit includes appliance, electricity, energy, heat, light, machine, motion, outlet, power, power plant, sound, and wind.
