April Newsletter

Dear Parents and Guardians -

Happy Spring! It is an exciting time of the year as we all look forward to the change in season and warmer weather.

Even though we just have about eight weeks of school remaining in the 2020-2021 school year, we continue to stay focused on doing everything we can to meet the academic and social emotional needs of our students.

In terms of academics, we will be conducting several assessments over the next month or so to measure student progress and make plans for the beginning of next year. We also met as a staff at the beginning of April so that teachers could share the essential skills that teachers should be focusing on to ensure students are prepared for the receiving grade level. Ongoing monitoring of student progress helps assure we are on the right track and that we are teaching the key standards and learning objectives on a daily basis.

In order to meet the social and emotional needs of our students, teachers conduct social skills lessons from Second Step once every week. These lessons and role plays help students to think through different scenarios and potential areas of conflict. By thinking through challenging situations, students tend to be better prepared to respond in a calm and rational manner when difficult things come their way.

We also have utilized a modified student reward system, due to Covid,  in support of our positive behavior support system. PBS helps acknowledge students for making positive choices and adhering to our PACK traits.

Finally, this year we adopted a student of the month program where teachers recognize individual students who model PACK traits and set a positive example for their peers. This program has been well received by students and parents alike and is something we plan to continue in the future.

We are excited to end the year on a positive note and to reflect on the obstacles we have overcome to help our students continue to grow and thrive.

Sincerely,

Dr. Mike
