Dear Coyote Ridge Community,
Happy Friday!
Visit from EcoCycle this week and next!
This week, Kathy from Ecocycle visited during lunch recess to play some games with students testing their knowledge of best practices around composting, recycling and waste reduction. Students who answered a question correctly were entered into a drawing to win a gift card.
Congrats to our winners: Abigail Hedman (1st) + Rhys Chalmers-Stevens (5th)!
Next week, Ecocycle will be visiting first grade for an in building presentation.
Student Led 3D Print Club
Our Student Led 3D print club has been working hard, supporting younger students in learning how to use the 3D printer and taking requests for items to be printed. I love being able to witness our older students stepping into leadership roles as they support our younger students in engaging in the makerspace.
Therapy Dog at CRE
We are fortunate to have the opportunity for a therapy dog, Molina, to be in our school beginning in January! Molina and her handler, Ms. Terrill, will be at school on Thursday mornings beginning next semester. Ms.Terrill is a retired Coyote Ridge teacher and is so excited to support our community. Molina has worked as a therapy dog for the past three years. Molina will be at school to support students with regulation when there are unpredictable and stressful situations, attend small group lessons and greet students around the school. Molina is a 6-year-old female yellow lab, up to date on all shots, and a certified therapy dog. If your child has an allergy or fear of dogs, please reach out to let us know. We are happy to discuss accommodations. Please email Abbey Young (Social Emotional Specialist) abbey.e.young@adams12.org
Broomfield FISH food drive
Thank you to our student leadership and our PTO volunteers who worked to sort donations for our Broomfield FISH food drive. We appreciate your generosity during this holiday season and modeling giving back to the community for your children.
Mwebaza Partnership Update
The students at our partner school are now on their Winter Holiday. Their school year ended on December 6th. When they return to school February 3rd they will be starting their next grade in school.
Although school is out, the community led Social Enterprise Projects that Mwebaza has invested in are still up and running and making money to support meeting the needs of the schools and communities.
Are you wondering: What is a social enterprise?
We collaborate with our Ugandan partners to develop income-generating projects. These "social enterprises" earn income for the school and business participants, building paths towards long-term, financial independence. These cooperatively-run businesses split profits between participants and the school. As the success of these enterprises grows, schools can reduce the cost of tuition and work towards their ultimate goal of offering some of the first tuition-free education in Uganda. These businesses are worker-owned and operated by the school and community members who contribute to each enterprise in various ways like providing necessary materials, oversight, or daily care, while also gaining hands-on experience and cultivating entrepreneurial skills. The success of these projects are a “win-win” path to self sufficiency for these schools and communities. Learn more here: https://www.mwebaza.org/business-coops
Are you interested in investing in social enterprises?
Check out our holiday market where all funds raised go directly to the start up of these types of businesses and our partner schools in Uganda. https://mwebaza-foundation-inc.square.site/
Art Hub Kids Film Festival/New Student Club for Spring
We have an exciting opportunity for interested 2nd- 5th grade students this spring, “The Jump Cut Film Club”. One of our parents works with the Art Kids Hub Film Festival and is going to be facilitating an after school club beginning in February to support students who are interested in entering a submission to the film festival. Students can use their creativity to express themselves through a 3 minute or less film that will be judged at the festival.
Read more here: https://www.artshub.org/kids-film-festival
If your child is interested, please send me (Ms. Webb) an email and we will see how many interested students we have. This club will likely meet on Mondays.
In partnership,
Carolyn Webb, Coyote Ridge Principal
