CRE Weekly Newsletter Nov. 15
Post
Dear Coyote Ridge Community,
Happy Friday! We’ve had another amazing week at Coyote Ridge!
EcoCycle Green Star School Certification
We have been very busy with Ecocycle over the past two weeks. Our teachers received training from Ecocycle, where we focused on sustainability practices within the classroom. Many members of our parent community attend a training with Ecocycle learning about how to incorporate better recycling practices at home while also thinking about how we can bring more sustainable practices to our community events. Our paraprofessionals received training around how to best support students in the cafeteria with recycling and composting. This week, all of our students participated in a learning session with Ecocycle focused on the environmental impacts that waste has on our world and how they can be sustainability leaders. We are so grateful for the $10,000 grant from the city of Broomfield and the $5,000 grant from the Adams 12 Sustainability team that made it possible for us to be on our way to becoming the first Ecocycle Green Star School in Adams 12.
School Accountability Committee/Building Thinking Classrooms
This week, our School Accountability Committee joined Ms. Dutro (our instructional coach), Ms. Garren (3rd grade teacher) and myself for some Building Thinking Classrooms observations. We visited a kindergarten and 5th grade classroom and observed students as they were engaged in a thinking task. It is always fun to be able to bring parents along for classroom observations and for them to be able to see the wonderful learning experiences that our teachers create for students everyday.
Ameritowne
Our 5th graders visited the Young Americans Bank in Denver this week for their trip to Ameritone. I love being able to watch all of the hard work that students put in leading up to this field trip. Students apply for and interview for jobs, get their bank accounts in order and learn a little bit about society before they head to Ameritone to experience a mini-town for themselves.
October Golden Paw Winners
Congratulations to Nerma Ceric (SSN para) and Peggy Thomson (2nd grade teacher) for being selected by their colleagues as our October Golden Paw winners! As a reminder, PTO funds Amazon gift cards monthly to two CRE staff members who have been nominated by their colleagues for showing exemplary service to students that month.
Mwebaza Partnership Update
Last spring, The Mwebaza Foundation received a grant from an organization called African Library Project https://www.
The St. Paul Primary School (our sister school in Uganda) received books to start a small school library. With the books also came a library training for all teachers on how to run a small library successfully in their school. Our CRE Mwebaza Club hosted a fundraising event to support the start up of these libraries. The money raised was used by the school to send their teachers to the training, bring their books back to school, and also build bookshelves, tables, and chairs for their library space. These funds also provided the materials used to label books and organize them on the shelves, as well as the purchase of small bags for students to carry their books home through the check out system. When the Mwebaza Foundation staff and volunteers arrived in Uganda this past summer they were able to work alongside the teachers to plan the library systems and get them up and running. We are so incredibly fortunate to have this partnership with the Mwebaza Foundation and our sister school in Uganda!
Please see the attached flier for another opportunity coming up to support our sister school. The Foundation is sponsoring a restaurant night at Chipotle in December.
In partnership,
Carolyn Webb
Coyote Ridge Principal
