September Golden Paw Winners
Each month, staff has the opportunity to nominate colleagues who have been exemplary that month with our Golden Paw award. Our PTO rewards each winner with an Amazon gift card and a Golden Paw. Congratulations to our September Golden Paw winners Melissa Kundrat + Bev Muller — thank you for making Coyote Ridge such a great place to learn and grow!

Halloween
Halloween is coming up soon, and we can’t wait to celebrate with our Coyotes! Please mark your calendar for HOWLoween on Friday, October 24th in the evening right here at Coyote Ridge! It has been our tradition for many years to celebrate Halloween together at this fun filled community event in lieu of classroom Halloween parties. On Halloween (Friday, October 31st), we will host a student parade on the blacktop in the back of the school. Our parade will begin promptly at 8am- we hope to see you there!

We’re looking forward to a fun, safe and festive day. Please see the attached Halloween guidelines for costumes below.

Professional Learning Day Recap
On our recent Professional Learning Day on September 29th, teachers and staff engaged in meaningful training and collaboration to strengthen our instructional practices. Topics included Conscious Discipline, Depth and Complexity, Building Thinking Classrooms, looking at student writing, using data from our IXL math diagnostic assessment and our new literacy intervention curriculum, UFLI. These opportunities allow us to refine our craft and ensure that every student is receiving the best possible learning experience. We are grateful for the time to learn, grow, and bring back fresh ideas to our classrooms!

Canvassing for the MLO
Our fabulous PTO has been hard at work organizing opportunities to share information about the upcoming Mill Levy Override (MLO). Volunteers have been out in the community answering questions and spreading the word about how the MLO impacts our schools. A big thank you to our PTO for their dedication and to our families who are supporting these efforts! Your engagement and advocacy make such a difference for our Coyotes. Be on the lookout for a flier in your child’s Friday folder today detailing ways you engage in upcoming events during the month of October.

Lockdown Drill on Monday, October 6th
As part of our commitment to student safety, we will be conducting a lockdown drill on Monday, October 6th at 8:30am. These drills are an important part of our safety procedures and help ensure that students and staff know what to do in the event of an emergency. Teachers will prepare students ahead of time in a calm and age-appropriate manner, and we encourage you to have follow-up conversations at home as well. Thank you for supporting our efforts to keep our school community safe.

Have a wonderful weekend!

In partnership,

Carolyn Webb, Coyote Ridge Principal

Halloween Guidelines:

Adams 12 Five Star Schools encourages the opportunity for students and families to engage in celebration that is respectful to all cultures, religions, races, and beliefs.  In our continued efforts to maintain a respectful, safe and secure learning environment, the following guidelines for Halloween celebrations have been developed. These guidelines apply to students, staff, and participants of all Halloween celebrations both during and after the school day.  Please contact your school’s administrator for information specific to your school.

Halloween Guidelines

These guidelines apply to all students, regardless of the learning model they are enrolled in.  Costumes may only be worn on Friday, October 31, 2025, or at designated school sanctioned after school events.

  1. Costumes that would otherwise violate the Student Dress Code (Superintendent Policy 5060) will not be allowed.  For safety reasons, masks or makeup should not cover the student’s face in a manner that makes the student unrecognizable.  Masks or makeup that conceal a student's identity may be worn only during designated times such as during a costume contest.
  2. The following are considered not appropriate for school or school events:
  • Costumes that are overly graphic, promote violence or otherwise might reasonably  be assumed to be offensive to others or are likely to cause a disruption to the educational process
  • Costumes that are sexually suggestive and would otherwise violate the school’s dress code
  • Costumes with sound effects, lights or other components which would disrupt the classroom learning environment
  • Costumes that could be considered insensitive to any race, culture and religion
  • Toy or facsimile weapons of any kind (guns, knives, swords, bats, etc.) are not allowed
  • Costumes or dress of any kind that may be potentially disruptive to the educational or school environment

In alignment with Superintendent Policy 5060, school administrators may ask students or participants  to change into school appropriate attire and/or remove masks, makeup, or costumes.

In 2016, Adams 12 prohibited clown costumes due to nationwide safety concerns. Although we are not aware of any current threats, the district has chosen to maintain this prohibition as part of our 2025 Halloween guidelines.  Students and staff are not permitted to wear clown masks or costumes on school grounds.  This decision supports a safe and respectful environment for all.

Keep in mind,  district and school leadership reevaluate the guidelines each year and make adjustments as needed to ensure a safe celebration for the entire school community. Students who violate or are suspected to be in violation of this policy will be referred to school administration.

More Howloween Information from PTO

There are lots of ways to get involved with this year's Howl-o-ween!

TRUNK OR TREAT

You'll decorate the trunk of your car (or truck or van!) in a festive theme and hand out candy and other goodies provided by the PTO. Trunk or treat runs from 6 - 7:30PM and the evening will be capped off with prizes awarded for favorite trunks. You don't have to know your theme yet to sign up which you can do with this Trunk or Treat Sign Up

ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

From set-up, to running games, and more we'll need lots of volunteers to ensure the success of the evening. We're also looking for spooky story time readers in the library (costumes encouraged!). This is a great way to involve your middle and high schoolers!

To find out more, head to this volunteer link

DONATIONS NEEDED

One of the best parts of Falloween are the goodies students get to take home from Trunk-or-Treat! Traditionally, parents donate one bag of candy per student. We also need non-candy items as well (e.g. pencils, spider rings, bouncy balls, other small items). Starting next week, there will be a collection bin in the front lobby. Or, make things easy on yourself, skip the shopping, and make a small $5 donation per child instead. Your donation will give PTO the flexibility to add items as needed, so we can make sure all Trunk-or-Treat cars are well stocked! Follow this donation link

Book Fair

CRE's Fall Scholastic Book Fair is next week! Book Fair will be during parent/teacher conferences on October 7 and October 9 from 2:35-6:45 PM in the library. A portion of all purchases from in-person and virtual sales directly benefit our library!

You can use this link to shop our school's online fair from October 1 to October 10. You can also use that link to setup an eWallet for your student.

Volunteers are needed for set up, sales, and tear down. Find available slots here to help make this fair possible. Questions, please reach out to Jess Kivisto at jghendricks@gmail.com.
