CRE Weekly Newsletter Sept.25

Dear Coyote Ridge Community,

It’s been a great week at CRE!

As a reminder, we begin our staggered start at 7:35 am, ending at 7:50. Please do not drop off your child prior to 7:30, unless you plan to stay with them until they enter the building. Coverage for students is not available until 7:30.

School Tours/Open House for the 27-28 School Year

Do you know an amazing family that would make a great addition to our CRE community? Please let them know about our upcoming student led tours and Open House on November 19th @ 12:30pm!

The QR code below gets them signed up for a date that works for them.

We are so excited to welcome new Coyotes to our PACK!

GT Programming at CRE

I wanted to share some exciting news, we have been selected to be a showcase school for utilization of best practices in supporting GT students! The last week in October, the Colorado Department of Education will be spending some time at Coyote Ridge observing classes, talking to students and teachers and hearing more about the professional development we provide for our teachers. Something we are especially proud of is the ways that we provide access to GT best practices in the classroom for all students at CRE, not just our GT identified students. We are proud to be selected as a showcase school, as our teachers have worked incredibly hard over the past few years to better align our GT programming at Coyote Ridge with research-based best practices. This week all of our GT identified students began their Arts or Movement Based project connected to the affective goal of their Advanced Learning Plan. It’s been exciting to see such authentic engagement and excitement from our GT learners. Go team CRE!

Broomfield Days

Thank you to all of our community members who made it out to the Broomfield Days parade last Saturday. It was a big success and such a wonderful way to celebrate our culture of community. Big thanks to our PTO for organizing our participation in the event, we could not have done it without you!

All School Assembly

We had another fantastic student-led assembly today! Our students took the lead, bringing energy, laughter, and plenty of school spirit to the day. From fun games to community building, we even had several Dolly Partons making an appearance at CRE! We love seeing our students step into leadership, cheer each other on, and build community through these shared experiences. Way to go, Coyotes!

Underground Spirit Day

Our first Staff Underground Spirit Day of the year was one for the books! In honor of 9-25 Day, our staff showed up in true Dolly style: dressed as Dolly Parton or sporting their favorite Dolly gear! From big hair, denim and rhinestones to plenty of Dolly-inspired looks, our staff definitely brought the fun today! We love finding little ways to celebrate, laugh together, and build community at CRE.

Sportsmanship and Problem Solving During Play

Last week, we talked about the importance of play and how it provides opportunities to practice important life skills. During recess and games, kids learn to take turns, solve problems, handle winning and losing, and work through disagreements. These everyday experiences help build confidence, good sportsmanship, and emotional resilience skills.

We remind students that sportsmanship is respecting yourself, other players, and the rules…win or lose.

  • In the Game: Follow the rules, encourage teammates, and keep trying even when behind.

  • When Winning: Celebrate with joy, but skip the bragging. Give opponents space to cool down.

  • When Losing: Congratulate the other team, take deep breaths, and remind yourself that mistakes help us learn

When playground conflicts pop up, we encourage students to try these steps before asking an adult to step in, unless someone is being unsafe:

  • Stop & Choose a regulation strategy: Take a second to cool down before reacting.

  • Use a Quick Decider: Settle small calls (in or out?) instantly with Rock-Paper-Scissors.

  • Take a Reset: Step away for a few minutes or join a new activity if needed.

Practice at Home:

  • Play Quick-Turnover Games: Games like Uno, Sorry!, or Spot It! offer fast-paced practice with appropriate winning and losing.

  • Notice the Good: Watch a sport together and see who can spot acts of great sportsmanship first!

Monday is a Professional Learning Day for staff. Monday is also when our Coyotes will compete in the Cross Country races at Margaret W. Carpenter Open Space beginning at noon. We’d love to see you there as we cheer on our Coyotes!

They’ve been practicing hard!

Have a great weekend!

Carolyn Webb, Coyote Ridge Principal
