CRE Weekly Newsletter September 4

Dear Coyote Ridge Community,

Last night, Adams 12 shared its recommendations for school closures beginning in the 2027–28 school year. While Coyote Ridge Elementary was not named in last night’s announcement, we know that decisions of this magnitude will have an impact across our district and our entire Adams 12 community. We recognize that many families and staff may be feeling a range of emotions as they process what was shared. There are still many questions to be answered, and we will continue to share information as it becomes available. Most importantly, we will continue to focus on what we do best at Coyote Ridge: supporting our students, caring for one another, and working alongside our Adams 12 community to continue to foster a sense of belonging for all families.

Fall Fundraiser

A fall fundraiser update from the PTO- We have reached $4,240 of our $25,000 goal!

Funds raised will support PTO programs throughout the 2026–2027 school year. Fundraising helps make things possible like classroom resources, Makerspace materials, student activities, teacher support, staff appreciation, and favorite school events like Trunk or Treat, the Glow Dance, and Spring Carnival.

Three Ways to participate (pick 1,2 or all 3!)

  1. Just donate! In previous check drives we asked for $100 per student. We know financial times are tough so we decided to broaden our fundraiser to include ways for friends and family to donate too!

  2. Read A Thon - register your student and create their individual giving page. Then share the link with grandparents, relatives, neighbors, and friends! A reading tracker / goal setting page went home this week. A great tool to enhance student buy in!

  3. Browse the silent auction and bid! Remember only the winning bids pays- so please consider donating after the auction! (The site will be open until 9/18)!

Electives!

Today marks the beginning of our Student Interest Electives! These electives give students an opportunity to explore something they are passionate about, connect with peers who share their interests, and build relationships with adults and students across our school. This is an important part of our ongoing sense of belonging work at Coyote Ridge. We want every student to have opportunities to feel known, valued, connected, and have a place where they belong. Creating spaces around student interests is one way we are intentionally building that sense of connection across our school. Ask your child about their elective tonight!

Choir @ The Rockies!

Our Coyote Ridge choir performed the national anthem at the Rockies game on Tuesday. It was a beautiful performance! We are so thankful for our music teacher, Stephanie Harris, and her commitment to growing the musical talents of our CRE students. Bravo!

GT Testing

Parents may request that a student be considered for the GT identification process. 2nd grade students who will participate in the Universal Screening will not participate in this all grades testing process. Also- if your child has already been identified as GT, they do not need to be tested again. NO requests will be accepted after the due date, September 15, 2026. The form will be closed and will not accept any response. This form will be sent to Advanced Academic and Gifted Services (AAGS). The completion of this form will also serve as parent/guardian consent to evaluate the student for GT identification. If you have any questions, please reach out to our CRE GT coordinator: Katie Dutro-Trigeiro. Parent Request for GT Testing

Mental Health Minute (from Ms. Young and Ms. P!)

Building healthy sleep habits is one of the most impactful ways to support your child's growth, mood, and learning. By focusing on consistency, environment, and clear boundaries, you can transform bedtime from a daily struggle into a peaceful routine.

Here are four evidence-based strategies to help your child get the rest they need:

  • Maintain a Consistent Schedule: Keep the same wake-up and bedtime every day, including on weekends. This consistency reinforces your child’s natural circadian rhythm, making it easier for them to fall asleep and wake up naturally.

  • Build a Predictable Bedtime Routine: Create a calming, 20-to-30-minute sequence before lights out. Activities like a warm bath, reading a book together, or listening to quiet music signal to the brain that it is time to wind down.

  • Optimize the Sleep Environment: Keep the bedroom dark, quiet, and cool. Use blackout curtains if outside light interferes with sleep, and consider a white noise machine to mask disruptive household sounds.

  • Enforce a Digital Sunset: Remove all electronic devices—including smartphones, tablets, TVs, and computers—from the bedroom. Ensure all screens are turned off at least one hour before bed, as blue light suppresses melatonin production and delays sleep.

By implementing these small, steady changes, you can help your child develop independent sleep habits that will benefit them for a lifetime. For more info, read or listen to the article at https://childmind.org/article/encouraging-good-sleep-habits/

Have a wonderful 4 day weekend!

We will see you back at CRE on Wednesday, September 9th!

In partnership,

Carolyn Webb, Coyote Ridge Principal
