Dear Parents and Guardians -
It is hard to believe that we are in the month of October and that kids are getting excited about Halloween. The school year has gone by very quickly and overall we have had a great start.
We are looking forward to meeting with parents and guardians for conferences. This is a good opportunity for teachers to share assessment information and to help identify areas of strength and areas for growth for each student. Thanks to parents for prioritizing this time as it does help set learning goals for the remainder of the school year.
As I have mentioned several times in the weekly newsletter, we are focused on implementing the new Benchmark literacy resource at every grade level. Teachers have had a steep learning curve in order to become proficient at using the resource during literacy blocks, but we are starting to see the benefits of this new tool. Throughout the school day, students engage in both small and whole group instruction with clear learning intentions and guidelines on what they need to do in order to be successful. The resource also is set up so that concepts and grade level standards are addressed on several occasions during a unit. This helps assure that students assimilate the necessary information required for both reading and writing.
Some of you may have even heard about different concepts being taught as your child comes home from school. It is rewarding to see how students are responding to this new resource that was approved by the Colorado Department of Education and is a major initiative in Adams 12.
Thanks as always for your support and reinforcement of material at home.
